Spreading by lateral tillers that do not root at the nodes.; Stem: Rounded and glabrous stems producing a single leaf at each node; Collar: Membranous ligule that circles the stem. A few hairs often present at the collar region.; Inflorescence: Three to six racemes terminating a stem. Normally at the apex of the stem, not along the stem.

Description

A laterally growing summer annual grass. Common throughout all crops, horticultural and turfgrass areas. One of the most recognizable weeds to homeowners. As the name notes, plant is generally smooth in appearance except for numerous hairs around the collar region.
