Growth habit: Creeping growth habit until spring bolting and flowering; Stem: Smooth, glabrous with swollen stem nodes; Leaf: Smooth, glabrous, with a prominent mid-vein and keel-shaped leaf tip; Collar: White with large membraneous ligule; Inflorescence: A pyramidal shaped panicle with 6 to 12 branching spiklets. Larger panicle than Poa annua.
Description
Typically viewed as an annual in southeast and warm-season turfgrass climate. Utilized as an overseeding species, especially for bermudagrass putting greens. Rough-stalk bluegrass is a common weed in tall fescue due to its presence as a seed contaminant.
