Growth habit: prostrate to upright growth habit depending on management conditions; Stem: rounded and glabrous with plant bending at the nodes; Leaf: glabrous 4 to 10 inches long with a white mid-rib; Collar: ligule absent, white glabrous collar region; Inflorescence: panicles with 4 to 10 alternating racemes dispersed upward on the inflorescence, racemes are awnless.
Description
Plant glabrous throughout and lack of ligule are identifying characteristics. Distinguished from barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli) by awns on racemes- not present on junglerice, whereas present on barnyardgrass.
