Low growing annual herb commonly 15 to 30 cm in height. Stems hairy. Leaves linear to lanceolate, alternate without distinct petiole seeming to clasp or attach directly to stem. Inflorescence born in leaf axils. Inflorescence spherical, fuzzy in appearance due to pappi of each individual flower. Seed slender, elongated, and easily wind dispersed.
Description
Common summer annual weed in turfgrass, ornamentals, and non-crop areas. Especially common in drought years or in dry, poor soil areas. Not common in areas that are frequently mown. Similar to common horseweed (Conyza canadensis) but hairy horseweed is much shorter and more pubescent.
