Features
Common annual clover species along roadsides, pastures, and infrequently mowed areas. Leaves trifoliate, with elliptic to spatulate leaflets. Leaflets can have dark blotches, but this is not consistent. Stems very pubescent, with hairs lying appressed to stem. A stipule present at base of peduncle and primary stem. Inflorescence elongated conical shaped at plant apex, red to crimson in color. Inflorescence with 50+ individual flowers per head.
Description
Common annual clover throughout the southeast. Common because it is planted along highway right-of-ways as a “wildflower” species. Produces an attractive large red colored inflorescence. Inflorescence is largest of common clover species.
