Features

Spreads by stolons. Leaves alternate, simple, with palmate venation and serrate edges. Leaves with sparse stiff hairs giving leaves a “bristly” feel. On flowering stem leaves become more finely divided along five main leaf veins. Plant pubescent throughout including flower calyx. Petals red-orange to pink about 1 cm in diameter. Fruit ring-shaped, flat on top.

Common prostrate perennial weed in Southeastern U.S. Common in droughty, closely mown turfgrass areas as well as ornamental beds.
