Features
Purple flower with dark throat; plant is glabrous throughout except for small hairs that can occur on primary and secondary leaf veins. Leaf shape is heart-shaped to lobed– lobed is the primary form but both leaf types can occur on the same plant.
Description
Annual or weak perennial morningglory primarily limited to coastal plains soils of the southeastern U.S. Sharppod morningglory (Ipomoea trichocarpa var. trichocarpa) is much more pubescent than cotton morningglory. Flower color is consistent within this species.
